What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?
If there is one thing I would tell someone younger than me, it would be this: please don’t let other people’s comments about you decide how you live your life.
I see so many young people becoming overly conscious about their body, their weight and their looks.
Some are obese, some are very thin, and both can become equally conscious because of what people around them say.
Sometimes, it gets so bad that they start avoiding social gatherings, functions, meeting people or even going out, simply because they are scared someone will say,
“Oh, you are so fat!”
“You are so thin!”
“Your clothes look like they are hanging on a hanger!”
“Oh, you have become so fat.”
“Why do you eat so much?”
“You should try some diet.”
And what may sound like a casual comment to one person can hurt another person much more deeply than you realise.
People say these things casually. But the person hearing them may carry those words for years.
And honestly, your life is so much bigger than your body size.
So if you are a teenager or young person reading this, please don’t waste your precious years trying to fit into someone else’s idea of how you should look.
Take care of your health, yes.
Eat well.
Move your body.
Work on yourself because you deserve to feel healthy and strong, not because someone made you feel like that .
Go out. Meet people. Attend that function. Wear the clothes you love. Make friends. Fall in love. Travel. Study. Build your career. Chase your dreams. Make mistakes. Laugh loudly.
Live.
I have seen people get deeply hurt by words that were spoken in just a few seconds. And years later, they look back and realise those words never deserved to have so much power over their lives.
So my advice is simple:Don’t let somebody else’s careless comment become the reason you stop living your own life. You are so much more than a number on a weighing scale or the way you look in a mirror. ❤️
